Different Ways of Thinking
- Analytical (Reductionist) Thinking: This is the ability to break down complex problems into smaller components and analyse them systematically. It involves logical reasoning and critical thinking skills. This type of thinking requires effort and is, therefore, not common in day-to-day decision-making. Often referred to as System 2 thinking.
- Creative (Design) Thinking: Creative thinking involves generating new ideas, concepts, and solutions. It encourages thinking outside the box and exploring unconventional approaches.
- Systems Thinking: Systems thinking involves understanding and analysing complex systems as a whole rather than focusing on individual elements. It considers the interconnections and relationships between different parts of a system.
- Intuitive Thinking relies on instinct, gut feelings, and unconscious mental processes. It is often used in situations where quick decision-making is required. This is a dominant process in human decision-making and is often called System 1 thinking.
- Artificial Intelligence: This may represent a new type of thinking, different to human cognition.
